St. Croix Crossing
2022 District Champion
St Croix Crossing had its beginnings early in 2010. Over the years, in addition to being the 2010 Land O' Lakes District Senior Champions, they have won 5 bronze and silver medals at the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Senior Quartet Championships, finally winning their gold medals in Costa Mesa, California in January of 2018 - more senior medals than any other single senior champion quartet in the history of the contest. Later that year, they competed in the July International open contest, making them only one of three senior champs ever to get there after winning the senior competition, and the Land O' Lakes District also honored them by inducting them into their Hall Of Fame at the fall convention that October. They competed again at the BHS open contest in Charlotte in July 2022, qualifying with their highest overall scores ever, and finally won the Land O' Lakes District Championship in 2022, which according to the Barbershop Harmony Society, makes them the first International Senior Champ quartet to win their district after winning an international seniors contest.

Steve joined SPEBSQSA in 1978 so his first group could compete in its first contest. Since then he’s sung with quartets too numerous to mention, but if you look back far enough, you’ll find him listed here as a replacement in another district champ quartet. (The guys in the North Star Chorus, his home chapter, think he’s sung with everybody.) He has a Bachelor of Music degree, does some arranging, and has even taught the subject at a few LOL training schools.
Steve is married to a woman with seemingly infinite patience and has two adult sons. Since retirement, he’s been dividing his musical time between the quartet, the North Stars, and the Robbinsdale City Band, where he plays cornet and trumpet. He also dabbles in ukulele, and when he’s not doing something musical, sometimes you’ll find him looking at the world through a camera lens.

Born and raised in Wayzata, graduated in West Hartford CT, finished college in San Francisco, have always been totally devoted to music. Lifetime keyboard player (paid my bar band dues early 70's); 14 years a bass with Minnesota Chorale singing the Big Stuff, discovered/joined Great Northern Union in 2006; first quartet experience in 2007 with Gold Rush, formed St Croix Crossing in 2010, first International Seniors competition in 2012 (3rd place), won championship 2018. Like The Duke once said: "music is my mistress, and she plays second fiddle to no-one".
